I was drawn to Somatic experiencing because I saw how traditional talk therapy can create insight, shift thinking patterns, and help you understand why you do what you do.  

However, understanding the ‘why’ only goes so far… Understanding the ‘why’ is in your brain, and it often doesn’t translate into a change in behavior. If you are anything like me, it can be even more frustrating to notice the why of what you do, but still be doing the same or mostly the same behaviors…

This is because your brain has figured it out, but there are things that still stuck in your body.

Somatic experiencing shifts the focus from just talking about the past to feeling empowered in the present. By learning to listen to your body’s signals, you can move through old patterns of ‘fight, flight, or freeze’ and rediscover (or discover for the first time!) your capacity for joy and connection.
